Quick Export

Sometimes you don’t need a fully edited PDF as a final document. If you have drafted a short email or a social media post, you may simply want to paste the text elsewhere while preserving the formatting. That’s what Quick Export is for.

When your draft is ready, use the shortcut ⌘6 to open the Quick Export menu.

This menu displays all available export formats. Select your desired output format, then either press Return or click the “Copy to Clipboard” button:

To use your formatted text elsewhere, the best choice is the Text output. Select either Rich Text or Markdown, depending on where you plan to paste it:

  • Email drafts
  • Social media posts
  • CMS or blog editors

On iOS, you can achieve the same result by highlighting the sheet content, tapping “Copy As…”, and selecting the desired format.

Publishing to Substack and Basecamp

The Quick Export menu also features a “Services” category. Here, you can set the output format specifically for Substack or Basecamp.

Alternatively, you can access these options by highlighting text and selecting “Copy As…” (on both Mac and iOS), or by using the “Share” menu on iOS.

Pasting content into the Substack or Basecamp editor preserves most formatting (including footnotes), but there are a few limitations to keep in mind:

  • Tables and videos will be replaced by placeholder images. Only images with URLs are supported for now.
  • Basecamp does not support equations. Substack supports block equations, but does not support inline equations.
